Leading with Vulnerability: Kizzle Forson & Express Yourself Black Man

In the heart of adversity, where silence often shadows the struggles of many, Kizzle Forson has emerged as a beacon of hope and transformation. The founder of ExpressYourself Black Man, Kizzle’s journey from battling personal demons to becoming a mental health advocate, is not just a story of overcoming but a testament to the power of vulnerability and the strength found in community. His narrative is a compelling reminder that in the depths of despair, there lies the potential for profound change and impact.

“I got into mental health advocacy in 2017 after going through my own struggles with depression,” Kizzle shares, recounting the pivotal moments that led him to realize the importance of open conversations about mental health, especially among Black men. His personal battle with depression, sparked by a heartbreak in college, spiraled into suicidal ideations, marking a turning point in his life. It was this period of turmoil that illuminated the stark reality: the conversations around mental health in the Black community were not just insufficient—they were nearly nonexistent.

Determined to fill this void, Kizzle embarked on a mission to create a space where Black men could express themselves freely, without fear of judgment or stigma. The Kizzle brand, initially a project aimed at raising awareness for depression, laid the groundwork for what would eventually evolve into ExpressYourself Black Man. This platform, born out of Kizzle’s own need for healing and his desire to provide a safe haven for others, has grown into a community where Black men can find support, resources, and a sense of belonging.

“2020 was a year of transformation for me,” Kizzle reflects on the impact of the pandemic and personal challenges that led him to therapy. This journey of self-discovery and healing underscored the importance of therapy and inspired him to take his advocacy to the next level. With the encouragement of a friend, he overcame his initial reluctance and launched the ExpressYourself Black Man podcast, a decision that would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life and the lives of countless others.

ExpressYourself Black Man has since flourished into a multifaceted platform, offering everything from daily affirmations and podcast episodes to partnerships with universities and organizations. The introduction of Safe Haven, a holistic healing app, further exemplifies Kizzle’s commitment to providing accessible mental health resources. “We connect Black men with health professionals for coaching… It’s about making it as easy as possible for Black men to get access to what they need,” Kizzle explains, emphasizing the importance of creating a supportive environment that transcends the limitations of traditional therapy.

Safe Haven emerges as a groundbreaking initiative within the ExpressYourself Black Man platform, offering a sanctuary for Black men to explore and enhance their mental health through professional coaching. This innovative app transcends traditional therapy barriers by connecting individuals with Black men’s health professionals, primarily psychotherapists, for coaching sessions designed to be as accessible and impactful as possible. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by Black men in seeking mental health support, Safe Haven is meticulously crafted to ensure ease of access, confidentiality, and a judgment-free environment. By prioritizing coaching over therapy, it cleverly navigates the legal and logistical hurdles that often deter individuals from seeking help, making mental wellness more attainable for a demographic historically underserved in mental health resources. Through Safe Haven, Kizzle Forson not only extends a lifeline to those in need but also fosters a community of healing, understanding, and growth, reinforcing the notion that vulnerability is a strength and that no one should navigate the path to mental wellness alone.

Kizzle’s vision extends beyond individual healing; he is dedicated to fostering a culture where Black men feel seen, heard, and understood. From content creation to workshops and systemic changes within universities, every aspect of ExpressYourself Black Man is designed with intentionality and purpose. “It’s about setting Black men up for success,” Kizzle states, highlighting the transformative power of creating spaces that encourage vulnerability and open dialogue.

As ExpressYourself Black Man continues to grow and impact lives, Kizzle remains grounded in gratitude and faith. “All Glory to God,” he says, attributing the success of his endeavors to a power greater than himself. His journey is a powerful reminder that healing is not just a personal journey but a collective one. By sharing his story and creating a platform for others to do the same, Kizzle Forson is not just changing narratives; he’s building a legacy of resilience, hope, and empowerment for Black men everywhere.

Kizzle’s story is more than inspirational; it’s a call to action—a reminder that in the face of adversity, we have the power to transform our pain into purpose, and in doing so, light the way for others. ExpressYourself Black Man stands as a testament to the strength found in vulnerability and the transformative power of community support. It’s a beacon of hope for anyone struggling in silence, a reminder that you are not alone, and that healing is possible.
